That was the Art&Science Day 2025
At the second Art&Science Day at the Institute of Molecular Biosciences, more than six creative hands-on stations awaited you, as well as a lecture by science communicator and project manager Gabriel Dörner, MA (Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft, Open Innovation in Science CentreVienna), and a mini comic workshop by science communicator and comic author, Dr Ariane Pessentheiner. From 11:30 to 13:30, school classes could register for limited places and attend the Art&Science Day as a group.
Afterwards, you could discover new things and find creative ways into science at the Art&Science Day. The focus was on getting active yourself - with comics, microscopy art and protein modelling, among other things, or unleashing your creativity by designing a special biomembrane. The successful day ended with a cosy get-together where further ideas were exchanged and science was discussed.
Recap Art&Science Day 2024
Science meets Art: During the International Biophysics Week 2024, the first Art&Science Day took place on March 21, 2024 at the Institute of Molecular Biosciences at University of Graz.
During this event, participants of all ages were invited to unfold their creativity at five hands-on stations, where they could experience research from a special perspective and get in touch with the researchers of our institute. A playful comic-biomembrane, phospholipid dancers, chromatography insects and many colorful molecule models were among the creations. The participants also built their own microscopes, which they then used to immerse themselves in the microscopic world of animals and tissues and present them as works of art.
The day was rounded off by two lectures on science design by Dr. Verena Resch under the motto "Make Science Beautiful" (https://luminous-lab.com) and by Dr. Ariane Pessentheiner on how to use comics to present complex content in a simple way.
The children and adults clearly had fun at this successful event and, in addition to great works of art, certainly took home some scientific insights.
