The workshop at the Akademisches Gymnasium was one of our first workshops. We held it in two parts. The pupils spent one day at the University of Graz, where they had the chance to explore the campus and gain an insight into the academic environment. A laboratory visit to our biophysics research department under the direction of Prof. Keller was also included. We showed them how we work and what special equipment we use for biomembrane research. One particular highlight was being able to see nanodiscs live.
Our experience has shown that there is a great deal of interest in studying and also in the life of scientists, especially at this higher school level. Our aim was to respond to their questions through direct interaction with the pupils and to give them an honest picture of the university landscape.
The second part took place at the academic high school. Continuing the workshop at their school allowed the students to realize their ideas in a familiar environment. Great works were created, which can also be classified as very mature in terms of scientific content.
This workshop was held in April/May 2023.
